To grow by 43% compared to last year

With the world economy steadily getting back on its feet, and with end-users finding themselves in increasingly better positions to consider new purchases, companies in the IT industry find that they too are in a more favorable market condition. This has led to most of them setting higher sales estimates, compared to previous years, as they noticed that demand for all types of electronics, even those in nascent niche markets, is getting stronger. In tune with these events, ASUS expects to sell significantly more LCDs over the course of 2010 than it did last year.

According to a report published by Digitimes, Asustek Computer intends to put on an excellent performance on the global LCD monitor market. Specifically, it hopes to sell between 4.5 and 5 million LCDs. Compared to the 3.5 million in 2009, this would signify an increase of 29 to 43 percent, which is no small feat.

On the same note, sales in Taiwan are expected to grow by 50,000, to 450,000, according to the sources. It should be noted that ASUS' 400,000 sales in 2009 enabled it to become the leading LCD supplier (in Taiwan), with a 25% share, which means that an increase in sales would allow it to even further distance itself from competitors, including AOC and TPV.

As part of its strategy to accomplish these plans, ASUS will reportedly release a number of monitors using LED backlighting and measuring between 15.6 inches and 27 inches. These, along with all other LED displays, should, in the end, make up 10 to 15 percent of the company total shipments for the ongoing year.

In related news, the entire Taiwan LCD monitor market is, itself, set to grow by 5 to 10 percent in 2010, whereas the global shipments, compared to last year's 167 million, are poised to amount to between 170 million and 180 million.
