Taiwanese motherboard and graphics card maker ASUS has recently announced the introduction of the world's first graphics cards to boast Multilayer Polymer Capacitors (Super ML Caps). Part of ASUS' new series of self-designed GeForce GTX 285 and Radeon HD 4890 graphics accelerators, the new cards are said to provide users with as much as 3.3 times the overclocking potential of reference boards. In addition, the cooling solution on the new cards is said to be capable of delivering up to 10 degrees Celsius cooler GPU temperatures.

The new features that have been enabled on ASUS' latest graphics cards will enable computer enthusiasts to boost the performance of their systems by overclocking the GPU. According to the company, the high capacitance inherent in the Super ML Caps offers a better overclocking margin and guarantees a stable system operation. The combination of Super ML Capacitors and some of ASUS' own overclocking applications enables an easy performance increase, even for those users who are new to overclocking. With the use of ASUS' self-designed cooling solutions, these cards enable even faster speeds with support for higher GPU frequencies.

With the announcement, the Taiwanese company has introduced four new cards, with two being based on the new GeForce GTX 285 from NVIDIA while the other two are based on AMD's highest-performance single-GPU card on the market, the Radeon HD 4890. These two GPUs come with both standard clock speeds and with factory-set GPU frequencies, available for the TOP models. The new ENGTX285 from ASUS comes equipped with 1GB of 512-bit DDR3 memory, clocked at 2,484GHz and a GPU speed of 648MHz, while the TOP version comes with the same amount of memory, but with a memory and GPU speed of 2.6GHz and 670MHz respectively.

The Radeon cards are available with a dual-fan, dual-slot cooling solution and are also equipped with 1GB of memory but use higher-performance 256-bit GDDR5 memory. The clock speeds on these cards are 850MHz and 3900MHz for the reference model, while the TOP variant is rated at 900MHz and 4000MHz respectively.

Unfortunately, ASUS hasn't announced anything on the pricing and availability of its new offering.
