Taiwanese motherboard maker ASUS has recently announced the introduction of a new lineup of server motherboards, designed to provide professional users with support for Intel's latest Nehalem-EP Xeon processors, the Intel Xeon 5500 Processor series. According to the company, its new motherboards are equipped with some of the company's latest technologies, such as a GREEN design and the PIKE upgrade kit, in addition to the use of high-quality components. The company's new Xeon-supporting platforms are now available and are said to be ideal for use in workgroup databases and other server systems.

“Based on the advanced Intel 5500 Series IOH chipset and Intel 5500 Series Processor, plus supporting DDR3 technology, these new ASUS platforms will deliver performance upgrades of up to 70% in comparison to previous generation platforms according to SPECCPU. The ASUS Z8 Series Motherboard has attained the No.1 SPECCPU Score for SPEC organization.” said Andrew Lynn, AVP of ASUS’ Server Business Unit. He further stated, “Other than the performance jump, the new Intel Platform also features great power management to handle different application scenarios.”

According to ASUS, its new server platforms have been specifically designed to provide a high level of performance but in a more energy-efficient package. The company's new servers are equipped with 80 Plus high-efficiency PSUs, 6-phase CPU power, 3-phase memory VRD design, all of which combined are said to effectively reduce the power loss and enable users to save on the energy bill. Additionally, these new platforms have been featured with ASUS's EPU (Energy Processing Unit) technology, which is basically meant to deal with the system's power requirements.

There are a number of new products released by ASUS, as part of its Nehalem-EP-supporting lineup, including working servers, but also standalone motherboards. One of these boards, the Z8NA-D6, was showcased at this year's CeBIT show in Hanover, Germany, prior to the official release of Intel's highly-anticipated next generation of Xeon processors.
