ASUS has released two BIOS packages, namely the 4004 and 4005 versions, that are targeted at some of its motherboards.

Specifically speaking, the compatible boards are the Rampage IX Formula, IV Gene, and IV Extreme (4004), and Sabertooth X79 (4005). Moreover, the P9X79, P9X79 PRO, P9X79 LE, and P9X79 Deluxe are also suitable for the 4005 version.

The new packages enhance the system’s overall compatibility with other devices, expand the CPU support list by adding other new models, and may also improve the board’s performance.

As always recommended, the BIOS update should be done only if it resolves a specific problem; otherwise, it’s a risk that you don’t have to take. So as a safety issue, first check the current version by going to the BIOS menu.

In addition to that, flashing the BIOS on overclocked setting or interrupting the update process through a system restart or power off, may result in the malfunction of the motherboard.

Therefore, make sure you load the default BIOS setting before you start the process, and ensure that you have a stable power environment.

That being said, follow the link below, and from the list, choose the one that best describes your motherboard.
