So it looks like the tech doesn't have to be pre-integrated after all

If you want incredibly smooth visuals, you need a monitor with a good refresh rate and a graphics card to match, but even then, it's possible for screen tearing to happen, and V-Sync always causes lag. That's why ASUS launched the G-Sync upgrade kit for the VG248QE monitor.

Well, it's actually NVIDIA that created the G-Sync technology, and there have been a few announcements of monitors that have the module included.

What ASUS did for the first time here was introduce an upgrade kit that would add G-Sync support to the VG248QE monitor. It costs $199 / €199 - €199.

It makes sense too, since that particular monitor has a refresh rate of 144 Hz, and G-Sync synchronizes it with the frame rate from the GPU.

The upgrade kit is essentially a PCB (printed circuit board) with a bunch of headers. You can install it in the monitor yourself, or go to the nearest ASUS service center and have them do it.
