ASUS has made available new firmware packages developed for its wireless devices, namely version 3.0.0.4.376.2678 and 1.0.7.7 for the RT-N16 and DSL-N66U routers, respectively, which can be applied regardless of the OS powering your system.

When it comes to changes, while the DSL-N66U-related package only resolves a connection issue encountered with VDSL WAN when “Automatic IP” was set as connection type, the 376.2678 build includes various new features.

Specifically speaking, if the RT-N16 unit is upgraded, the system status will be able to display the CPU and RAM usage, the client status will now show the wireless signal strength, and users will be able to change the client icon.

In addition to that, the 376.2678 version allows changing the client name and also allows parental control, QoS, manually assigned IP, static route, and port forwarding client list to refer to this name. Moreover, the OpenSSL has been upgraded to version 1.0.0m.

As for installing these versions, just save and extract the downloadable archive, log into the router’s administration page, go to the firmware update section, and select the .trx file from the newly created folder.

Bear in mind that, since wireless technology can disconnect easily, it would be best if the installation process were performed using an Ethernet cable.

That being said, download ASUS DSL-N66U Router Firmware 1.0.7.7 or download ASUS RT-N16 Router Firmware 3.0.0.4.376.2678 depending on which device you own, and upgrade its firmware to the latest version.
