Should start selling this month

Even though the main buzz of this year's CeBIT expo in Hanover, Germany was focused around gaming hardware, laptops and 3D, ASUS had a large enough exhibition that it managed to make an impression on mostly every market segment it targeted. This includes the market for compact PCs with entry-level specs, otherwise known as nettops, of which the EeeBox PC EB1007 was one of the more noteworthy. Now, a while after its showcasing, the diminutive system is still unavailable but has, at the very least, been added to its maker's product pages.

Back at the expo, the PC and component supplier did not give out the full list of specifications, so consumers couldn't really know what to expect. Now, it is revealed that the configuration revolves around the very same old 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 central processing unit (CPU) and has 1GB of memory, as well as a hard disk drive with a maximum storage capacity of 160GB.

Furthermore, the nettop boasts Gigabit Ethernet, WiFi, USB, eSATA, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and an SD card reader. As for graphics capabilities, the company settled for the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3150 integrated graphics.

Obviously, this performance isn't meant for any extraordinary feats, with the PC being more focused on providing basic computing and web browsing capabilities in a compact frame. All the above parts are packed tightly inside a 223 (D) x 178 (W) x 27 (H) box (measurement does not take the stand into account), which gives the entire machine a weight of only 1.17 kg.

For user convenience and peace of mind, the ASUS EeeBox PC EB1007 has a sound output of only 26 decibels and comes with a VESA 75/100 standard mount. Finally, the compact computer runs the Windows XP operating system and will most likely start selling before the ongoing month is done. Unfortunately, the price remains shrouded in mystery.
