Selling low-end tablets at super affordable rates was a tactic first adopted by the Chinese white box vendors. But important tech players in the industry are now recognizing the value of this strategy and are looking to do the same.

Better late than never, we dare say. ASUS is one such brand vendor that plans to lower the prices for one of its upcoming tablet products to a level never seen before.

Surely, the company already offers affordable tablets like the MeMO Pad 7 (ME176) which sells for just $149 / €109, but prices are going to be decreased even more.

According to Apppoo, ASUS is prepping a tablet so cheap that it is bound to spike quite an interest. The ASUS MeMO Pad 7 ME80CX is apparently going to retail for just $97 / €74, if we are to believe the sources.

The company will launch the tablet soon enough and if we’re lucky we might even get to check it out at IFA 2014 which starts tomorrow. The new tablet will certainly put a lot of pressure on the company’s rivals like Acer, Lenovo, LG or Huawei, prompting them to roll out competitive products on their own.

The Asian report doesn't offer us a wide window into the tabs specifications, but we can tell you the device has a 7-inch screen and will run an Intel Atom Z2520 processor at its core, fitted with 8GB of internal storage. The battery inside is said to be able to last users up to 8 hours of normal usage.

As for the operating system, we have to speculate we will find Android 4.4 KitKat onboard, although the Chinese report doesn't mention this.

We’re not being told anything about resolution, but we can hope ASUS will bundle the tab with at least 1280 x 800, so we shouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be much lower.

For the time being, we’re told the ASUS MeMO Pad 7 ME70CX will be launched for the Southeast China and Asia region, but we have no indication whether or not the company plans to bring the super cheap slate to the international market.

Anyway, ASUS is expected to bring a whole host of goodies to put on display at IFA 2014. The company’s most anticipated product is the ZenWatch – the first smartwatch ever produced by the tech giant.

The ASUS Transformer Pad TF303 with FHD will surely be present at the event in Berlin, and if we’re lucky, we might even get a chance to take a glance at the company’s latest Transformer Pad effort which should arrive with a 14.2-inch display.
