Recent reports indicate that ASUS is planning to further capitalize on its Eee brand with the release of a couple of new products, including the Eee Top, which we already mentioned in a previous article, the Eee TV and even a new line of Eee motherboards. According to available details, these new products should become available during the first quarter of 2009.

It is widely known that ASUS has went to great lengths in marketing its lineup of Eee-branded products, which currently includes the Eee PC-series, the Eee Box and the Eee Stick. It now seems that the Taiwanese manufacturer plans to take the Eee brand a step further, and release even more devices that also include an Eee-branded motherboard line.

Details are scarce for the time being, but the upcoming motherboards will probably be designed to compete with the Wind board released by MSI earlier this year. The news isn't all that much of a surprise as ASUS is known for its high-quality motherboard lineup, as well as for the more recent lineup of Atom-powered netbooks. However, it is unclear if the company plans to build the new mobos using Intel's chipset exclusively, or whether it will also release Eee motherboards based on chipsets from NVIDIA, VIA or even AMD.

The new motherboard should be unveiled sometime in the first quarter of next year, by which time we will most likely get a general idea of how ASUS plans to tackle the new market segment.

In related news, Digitimes reports that ASUSTek has now responded to recent reports of Eee Box systems shipping with a virus. According to the company's preliminary investigation, said virus probably got on the systems via a USB drive that was used during the system's testing and inspection. The company claims that the infected models were only released on the Japanese market, although the investigation is still in full swing for further details.
