When a product is revealed ahead of time, it is, most often, because a certain amount of information was leaked, inadvertently or not, from the maker itself or one of its partners. There are, however, occasions when a certain plan of an IT company is revealed through other means, such as marketing plans of companies that aren't exactly directly involved in the making of said product. This is precisely what seems to have happened with ASUS' supposedly upcoming 3D laptop.
ASUS already has a 3D notebook, the G51J-3D, which uses the NVIDIA 3D Vision technology and has a screen size of 15.6 inches. There haven't been any hints that the PC maker was planning to release another one. Still, with
Digitimes once again as the source of the rumors, it appears that the Taiwanese company is indeed bent on perpetuating portable 3D, although there is hardly any information of what the upcoming notebook will be constructed out of.
The only hint available that suggests the 3D notebook's existence is that Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT), Chimei Innolux Corporation (CMI), Samsung Electronics and LG Display are all hoping that it is their particular display solution that gets handpicked for the job. Obviously, quality will be the defining factor in ASUS' final decision, since the issue of pricing is not exactly a particularly limiting factor when it comes to high-end and enthusiast-level computers. All that is known, for now, it that the display itself will be 17 inches in size.
Unfortunately, there is absolutely no mention of what other parts the upcoming ASUS 3D laptop will be built out of. It is possible that the newcomer will make use of the same NVIDIA 3D Vision technology and an Intel Core i7 CPU, but this is pure speculation. At any rate, things will definitely become clear in the third quarter, when the device is supposedly slated to make its appearance.
