Intel’s Lynnfield processors and the compatible P55 platform have been on the market for a while now, but due to their rather steep prices, these components still have some time before becoming a mainstream solution. However, one Taiwanese motherboard maker, namely ASUS, is planning to bring the P55 platform to the masses, with the introduction of a new board. Dubbed P7P55 LX, the board is expected to become available soon, for a price tag that should settle at around 100 Euro, according to a couple of details that have surfaced on the Internet recently.

ASUS is known as one of the world’s leading vendors of motherboards and can pride itself with some of the most successful designs to be made available on the market. The P7P55 LX looks to follow that tradition by providing customers with an affordable choice for Intel’s latest Lynnfield-based Core i5 and Core i7 processors. Also, the board could be considered a noteworthy choice for building a mainstream desktop using the latest hardware on market.

There are only a couple of details available at this time, but the upcoming board is expected to boast a 4+1 phase power design, coupled with four DDR3-2000 memory slots and two PCI-Express x16 slots, with support for AMD’s ATI CrossFireX multi-GPU technology. The board will also include the TurboV overclocking functionality and the ExpressGate instant-on operating system. Additional features include ASUS’ MemOK!, an EPU (energy processing unit), six SATA 3.0Gbps ports, a PATA port, Gigabit Ethernet and support for a 7.1 channel audio.

Unfortunately, as it is with most unreleased products, we have no official details available on the board’s pricing or possible release date. We can only speculate that ASUS plans to roll out the affordable P55-based mobo sometime before the launch of Microsoft’s Windows 7 operating system, which is just a couple of weeks away.
