ASUS has made available a new firmware package developed for some of its routers, namely version 3.0.0.4.374.979, which fixes a DNS Amplified DDoS vulnerability on all the compatible devices.

To be clearer, this newly released update is targeted at ASUS’s RT-AC66R, RT-AC66U, RT-N66U (Ver.B1), RT-N66R, RT-N16, as well as RT-N56U wireless routers.

Besides the DNS vulnerability, version 3.0.0.4.374.979 also resolves a throughput issue encountered while the VPN server broadcast was enabled, and disables auto-mac clone (for Singapore SKU).

In addition to that, a roaming assistance option has been added in the Wireless → Professional menu, through which the administrator can help a user switch to a better AP signal faster.

Separate from the other compatible devices, the RT-N16 router benefits from a huge number of changes, including the above-mentioned ones.

Even though you can view the full list of changes on the router’s download page, if I were to highlight a few of them, I would point out that AiCloud 2.0 has been released, and connection, USB-related, parental control, and smart sync issues have been resolved.

Moreover, unmounting all disks through one click is now possible, the rmvb file extensions is added as a video format in media server, and the USB application installation process now displays more detailed information.

That being said, follow the link below, and from the list, choose the one that best describes your ASUS wireless router, get the package, and update the firmware version.
