ASUS has launched the first video card that uses the new SilentCool cooling solution. ASUS Extreme N6600GT Silencer is fitted with the nVidia GeForce 6600GT GPU, and it is aimed at users who want a video solution from the Performance class.

SilentCool cooling solution consists of a number of heatsinks: one main and two additional, connected to the main one using heat-pipes. The main cooling module is large aluminum radiator with copper base, two additional modules are made of copper and their
exact placement may be adjusted in order to best fit into different computer cases. Supplementary cooling modules are needed to allow better heat absorption from higher-end graphics processing units (GPU), which consume 80W or even more.

The stacked copper fins are positioned on a unique joint design, which enables the fins to rotate 90 degrees. Depending on the locations of critical components such as the CPU, capacitors etc., users can rotate the fins away from these areas for optimal heat dissipation.

An additional cooling module attached to the heatsink and extends to the exterior of the PC further lowers GPU temperature by another 6 degrees C.

Currently, the ASUS Extreme N6600GT Silencer is the only video card that uses SilentCool, but ASUS plans to launch soon other models that employ the same cooling technology.

ASUS Extreme N6600GT Silencer also offers functions like ASUS GameFace Messenger (IM and conference application for any PC game), ASUS GameLiveShow, ASUS GameReplay (which records the games’ action using the mpeg4 format) and ASUS VideoSecurity Ondine.

The video card is fitted with 256 MB of DDR3 memory and it offers a wide range of connectivity options (HDTV-out, DVI, Dual VGA, DVI+VGA, DVI+TV-out, DVI+ HDTV-out).
