Since the first quarter of the year is nearing its end, most companies have already set shipment goals, and it seems that ASUS has also made a general plan for how its LCD monitor business will progress, both worldwide and on the main segments of interest.

On the IT market, there are many companies that specialize in one sort of device, or a small range of hardware products of related purpose.

Then, there are those companies that deal in hardware of many more kinds, ASUS being one of them.

Among other things, the company sells personal computers (both desktops and laptops), video cards, display solutions and other items.

As such, ASUS constantly has to pay heed to marketing conditions and make sure that its shipment goals are attainable.

Of course, it is impossible to know just how many products of a certain type one will ship, but a vague estimate cans still be provided, like a sort of guideline.

That said, a recent Digitimes report places ASUS' expectations for the LCD (liquid crystal display) monitor market at 4.5 million units worldwide.

Professional monitors seem to be selling very well at the moment, so ASUS hopes its PA series will account for 3-5% of all its monitor shipments for the year.

Either way, the 4.5 million figure is a fair bit higher than the 3.7 million units which the outfit managed to sell during 2010. 10% of them will be high-end.

For those in need of a reminder, ASUS accounted for 2.3% of the worldwide market in 2010, though it did manage to retain one of the top spots in Taiwan (24% share). For 2011, it hopes to deliver 500,000 LCD monitors in this country.

Still, the main focus will be Europe (where it wants seventh or eighth place) and the US. What remains is to see just how well these plans are carried out.
