It is 24°C/F cooler than the reference board, while also running 12% faster

The GeForce GTX 780 Ti graphics card may be NVIDIA's best single-GPU adapter yet, but the GTX 780 continues to be very powerful as well, enough for ASUS to customize and include it in its Republic of Gamers (ROG) lineup.

The video card in the photo up on the left, and the pictures included in the gallery below, is the ASUS ROG Poseidon GTX 780.

Normally, the card's GPU works at 863 MHz, or 900 MHz if things get tough. Meanwhile, the 3 GB of GDDR5 VRAM (384-bit memory interface) operate at 6 GHz.

On the Poseidon GTX 780, however, the GPU, 2,304 CUDA cores and all, can reach 1006 MHz, although the memory is left alone.

This enable performance improvements of 12% in games like Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and Battlefield 4.

Meanwhile, the DirectCU H2O cooler keeps heat much lower than the reference model can manage. The press release says that the card runs 140% cooler, but that can be a bit troublesome to interpret, so we’ll go with the 24°C/F advantage instead.

It's all thanks to the custom vapor chamber that comes into direct contact with the GPU. Basically, the DirectCU H2O is a combination between an air cooler and a water block.

That said, the ASUS ROG Poseidon GTX 780 also comes with standard G¼-inch threaded fittings, making it compatible with most cooling equipment of this type.

This also means that you'll only get the full cooling benefits if your PC has a water cooling system installed. Speaking of which, when not linked to a water cooler, the card still runs 7°C/F lower than the stock board.

Furthermore, the fans are protected from dust and have an extended lifespan. ASUS says the board will work for up to 25% longer than reference ones. Sadly, ASUS did not give a price for the ROG Poseidon GTX 780.
