ASUS is one of the innovators in the market for portable computer systems, as the company's first Eee PC products set the stage for the most popular PC category currently on the market, namely netbooks. One of the company's latest products makes no exception to the rule, as it provides the world with the first 17.3-inch 16:9 notebook. Part of ASUS' F series of portable PCs, the new F70 laptop is designed specifically to meet the performance requirements of users looking for a portable entertainment system.

According to the Taiwanese company, its new F70 laptop comes as the world's first 17.3-inch 16:9 notebook, specifically designed as an entertainment system. The full 1080p HD display and the integrated Altec Lansing surround sound speakers are some of the main features of ASUS' F70, meant to provide the end-user with that close to perfection multimedia entertainment experience.

While at the exterior users will be greeted by a new-generation ASUS infusion design, “reminiscent of the Aurora Borealis” and a spill-proof “chiclet” keyboard, on the inside the F70 is equipped to provide the necessary power to run some of the latest multimedia applications on the market. The system is said to boast an integrated 1.3MP webcam, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NVIDIA GeForce graphics, a DVD-based optical drive (might be missing a Blu-ray option), Intel's Core 2 Duo processor and up to 4GB of DDR2 memory and up 500GB of storage space. You will even get an HDMI connector, enabling you to connect the F70 to a larger display.

To further sweeten the offer, ASUS also bundles its own Express Gate, enabling users to easily connect to the Internet, even without starting the fully fledged operating system. Price-wise, the company claims that the F70 is already available in stores with at a starting price tag of £859 including VAT.
