The Eee PC celebrates its first year of existence

It's been a while that we've been saying that netbooks should be among the most affordable portable computer systems on the market. Well, it now looks like at least some systems vendors have adjusted the prices on several of their small-sized, low-power portable PCs, also known as netbooks. According to recent details, both ASUS and HP have lowered prices for their products of this type. In addition, the one system that started this entire netbook-mania, the Eee PC, has just seen its first year of existence.

Now, when you get right down to it, paying US$300 for a portable computer system that allows you to browse the Internet, both through a wired and a wireless connection, and playing some online audio and video files, seems like an attractive offer. Well, if you've been looking for your very own Atom-powered Eee PC netbook, this may be the best time to make a purchase. Just head on to Best Buy, where the Eee PC 900A has just been listed for $299, which will pretty much get you a basic netbook configuration, with 4GB of storage space on a solid state drive and a Linux operating system.

ASUS' decision of cutting the price for one of its Eee PC models might have something to do with the fact that the Eee PC brand has just turned one year old. It was precisely back in October 2007 that the 7-inch Eee PC 701 was released on the Taiwanese market, according to Laptop Magazine.

However, if you have actually been looking for a slightly different system, meaning something that isn't powered by the same Intel Atom processor, then maybe you should check out the listing for HP's Mini Note 2133, which goes for $399.99 at Compusa. For this amount, you will get a configuration of HP's one and only netbook system that will provide you with a 1 GHz Via C7-M processor, 512MB of DDR2, 4GB of Flash storage, integrated VIA Chrome9 graphics and all the necessary features you will require from a netbook.
