It might launch the occasional product from time to time, but nothing more

It looks like ASUS has joined the club whose members are IT companies disillusioned by Microsoft's Windows RT operating system.

The idea was good on paper: a version of the Windows 8 OS that would work well on ARM processors and combat Android, all the while bringing the tablet market steadily under Microsoft's control.

Only it didn't. Sales were poor at best, as PC and tablet makers have already lamented.

And since there are no signs of improvement, ASUS has expressed its disappointment as well, when talking to AllThingsDigital.

Microsoft removing the start button and menu completely definitely didn't work in anyone's favor.

ASUS won't stop the development of new Windows RT products, but it is focusing on Windows 8 on Intel more.

All in all, since the results of Microsoft's Surface and ASUS VivoTab RT weren't “very promising,” ASUS is cutting its losses.
