You may have been there when we said how Digitmes reported the possibility of ASUS, Acer, HP, Dell and others leaving the tablet market alone.

We also said not to be too quick in believing the rumor and, true enough, ASUS, at least, bluntly said it was untrue.

"As usual, the rumors and reports from Digitimes are incorrect," said Asus spokesman Gary Key. "Asus is not exiting the Android tablet business."

'As usual' may be putting it a bit hard, since Digitimes, like any news and rumor site is expected to, sometimes actually is right and sometimes isn't, and it didn't actually say that was going to happen, only that upstream sources thought so.

Either way, this whole episode served to reaffirm how notebook makers aren't backing down from the tablet sector.

Dell also said it wasn't going anywhere, but Acer didn't comment on things yet.
