14 DAY TRIAL // As we already mentioned a couple of days ago in one of our posts, news about ASUS' Eee family just keeps coming in at an amazing pace. Even more, recent developments seem to be keeping to the same trend - since ASUS has introduced two new Eee PC models, which you will be able to recognize by the HD tag attached to their names. But do not be fooled, HD doesn't stand for High-Definition.
The two additions will come to complete the company's already vast 8.9-inch and 10-inch offering. The difference between the new models and the rest of the Eee PCs is that these will not be Intel Atom-powered. It looks like the Taiwanese manufacturer has decided to extend its non-Atom offer with a 10-inch netbook that is based on an Intel Dothan processor, and an 8.9-inch model powered by an Intel Celeron M CPU. The newcomers will become available under the dubbing Eee PC 1000HD (the 10-inch model) and 904HD (the 8.9-inch model).
As for the particulars of the new 10-inch Eee PC, first and foremost, we will see an Intel Dothan processor that has been clocked at 900MHz. Other than that, the netbook looks pretty similar to other Eee PCs, offering WLAN support, 80GB of storage and a built-in 1.3 MP camera. Powered by a 6-cell battery, the 1000HD comes equipped with either a Windows XP or a GNU Linux operating system. The other version is pretty much the same, the only difference being that it sports a 0.3 MP webcam and is powered by an Intel Celeron M processor.
At this point, details about the prices of these new Eee PCs are not available yet, but both netbooks should arrive at various major retailers soon.
To sum up, one could easily say that ASUS is trying its best to offer to us as many different versons of the Eee PC netbook as possible. Nevertheless, one can't but wonder, how many of these things does ASUS think we really need?
