Preparing to grace the market with next-generation motherboards is not the only thing that ASUS is up to, the company having now finally gotten around to shipping one of its more unusual netbooks, the so-called Lamborghini VX6.

Known by its full name as ASUS Lamborghini Eee PC VX6, this entry-level mobile computer has been in development for quite a while.

Updates on it have been made several times over the past few months, and it seems that its maker has decided to finally start selling it.

One of the main differences between this machine and other netbooks is that, while being powered by the same Pine Trail platform, it has a display size of 12.1 instead of 10.1 inches.

At the heart of the system lies an Intel Atom D525 dual-core chip whose clock is of 1.8 GHz.

ASUS put in 2 GB of RAM to back said CPU up, plus the obligatory integrated graphics and the NVIDIA Ion 2 discrete GPU.

As one would expect, the switch between the two video solutions will be done automatically thanks to the Optimus technology, which detects if an application needs more than the integrated accelerator can provide.

Of course, a hard disk drive was added, in this case with an internal capacity of 250 GB, which should let owners store a great deal of files of any kind, including multimedia.

Speaking of multimedia, video playback can be fully enjoyed thanks to the HDMI output, which allows for streaming to auxiliary displays, such as monitors or HDTVs.

As for connectivity and I/O, the company was definitely not lax, throwing in WiFi, 10/100 Ethernet, Bluetooth 3.0, VGA, audio ports, a 1.3 megapixel webcam and a multi-format card reader.

What's more, there are a number of USB ports, some of which are 2.0 and some actually being compliant with the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 standard.

Finally, the entire machine is kept running by a 6-cell battery that can last for up to six hours on a single charge.

Those seeking to acquire this netbook will have to be willing to part with £499, which is the equivalent of $799.
