It has no fewer than 22 SAS/SATA connectors, as absurd as it sounds

Normally, a motherboard, even a high-end one, has just six SATA 6 Gbps ports for hard disk drives and solid state drives. And maybe an mSATA port on the side.

ASRock decided to totally flummox everyone though, by bringing one ASRock Z87 Extreme 11 to Computex 2013.

The motherboard has the six 6 Gbps SATA ports provided by the Z87 Lynx Point PCH, but also boasts an LSI SAS3008 + 3 x 24R controller, which adds 16 more.

Between that and the Intel Thunderbolt and 4 PCIe x16 slots (via a PLX 8747 switch), the motherboard certainly provides more expansion capabilities than its peers.

To demonstrate that all works as it should, ASRock equipped the newcomer with 22 Plextor SSDs in RAID-0. 22 4 TB HDDs can bring the total capacity to 88 TB.

It makes one wonder why ASRock made this thing for gaming systems instead of servers.
