One thing about Thunderbolt is that, despite being relatively rare compared to USB 3.0, it is fast enough to get media attention periodically.

It doesn't hurt that Intel is doing its best to promote the technology, even setting up a Thunderbolt certification program.

Since the technology can move data at 10 Gbps, I can understand why Apple wouldn't be the only IT player to warm up to it.

It is this program that ASRock is using in its marketing tactic now.

The motherboard maker will soon introduce the Z87 Extreme9/ac mainboard, which is supposedly the first motherboard to pass the Intel Thunderbolt certification.

The TB connectors seem to be included at the back, alongside the USB 3.0 links.

The photograph also reveals six mini PCI Express / PCI Express slots, four DDR3 memory slots, high-end audio, dual-LAN, more than one video output and a black color scheme, even on the heatsinks.
