ARM, the Texas designer of low cost and power consumption processors, has just released a new open-source X.Org DDX Linux graphics driver.

Although the new driver doesn't provide support for the upcomming Mali T6xx processors, it's still good news nonetheless.

According to Tom Cooksy, General Manager at Solutions Group at Texas Air Systems, “for the last few months 'The Mali guys' have been working on getting X.Org up and running with Mali T6xx (ARM's next-generation GPU IP)".

There is only one problem with the new DDX driver; it's not making use of 2D hw blocks. Tom Cooksey has asked the Linux community to come up with some solutions.

More details on the new ARM driver and its various capabilities can be found in the official announcement.
