The new mobile architecture will take a while before making it into devices

Not so long ago I told you about Samsung wanting to boost Exynos marketshare through the selling of more tablets.

Chip manufacturer ARM is also interested in implementing its new Cortex-A17 processor core into mid-range tablets with pricing starting from $200 / €146 (via TechRadar). The new chip architecture will reportedly improve performance with over 60%, increase battery life and sustain a more power-efficient approach.

As ARM’s processors usually take 18 to 24 months to actually be implemented in mobile devices, we can expect to see the first Cortex-A17 powered tablet to arrive somewhere in the second half of 2015.

ARM is pretty hopeful and expects to see 105 million tablet shipments during the period outlined above. The A17 mobile processor is expected to fill the void left by the A9 model, which was already six years old and had to be replaced.
