14 DAY TRIAL // ARCHOS 35 Carbon is only one of the Android smartphones that ARCHOS has just unveiled to the world, with two more of them set to hit shelves in Europe as soon as next month, namely the 50 Platinum and 53 Platinum.
Just as their names suggest, the two handsets will be released with large touchscreens, at 5-inch and 5.3-inch, respectively, thus being aimed at different market segments when compared to the entry-level 35 Carbon.
Starting with the end of May, users in Europe will be able to purchase the two smartphones for $219.99 (168 Euro) and $249.99 (191 Euro), respectively, while enjoying the benefits of the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean platform on both of them.
The ARCHOS 50 Platinum will also include a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm 8225Q processor, along with 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 64GB of additional storage space.
The smartphone will also sport a 2000 mAh battery inside, and will be able to deliver a 960 x 540 pixel (qHD) resolution on its 5-inch screen.
The specs list of the device also includes an 8-megapixel photo snapper, a 2MP front camera for video calling, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS receiver, and the usual set of sensors.
As for the ARCHOS 53 Platinum, it will sport roughly the same specs (although it is larger), being capable of delivering the same qHD resolution, but being powered by a 2800 mAh battery instead.
“The smartphone market is shifting, as SIM-free sales versus subsidized sales are increasing, and ARCHOS is prepared to respond, as we can offer retail channels affordable, unlocked and feature-rich smartphones without the need to subsidize,” says Loïc Poirier, CEO of ARCHOS.
“Furthermore smartphones and tablets are interrelated markets that have quickly crossed over with the arrival of ‘phablets’ – half-phone, half-tablet devices. It only makes sense that this should be our next phase of products as this would be a natural fit for our brand and long term growth.”
