Good news for the environment lovers from APC. The company has just announced their new line of unintreruptible power supplies, the APC Back-UPS? ES 750. Apart from providing battery backup and surge protection to connected equipment, the unit features an intelligent sensing mechanism similar to those found in the master/controlled outlets, that allows the computer to shut down unused peripherals.

When the computer enters sleep mode, the master outlet senses a decrease in the drawn current and sends a shut-down command to all the controlled outlets, that are supposed to power the computer's peripherals (scanners, printers and speakers). APC Back-UPS ES 750 can help spare about $40 per year on average by cutting down the power to the unused equipment.

"The new APC Back-UPS ES 750 is designed to provide our customers with an environmentally-friendly solution to protect their home computer system", said Joe Loberti, senior vice president, Home and Distributed Systems, APC-MGE. "The electronics in this unit are meticulously engineered to minimize impact on the environment and maximize efficiency, consuming up to five times less power in normal operation than other available solutions - saving consumers money on their electric bill."

The APC Back-UPS ES 750 features small sizes, which makes it look appealing and at the same time fit for even the narrowest offices. The unit provides ten outlets equipped with surge protection, but only half of them can provide battery backup. The producers boast that their 450 watt unit can back a computer up for about 70 minutes of run time. The new UPS model also provides coaxial and telephone or Ethernet protection against spikes and surges.

APC's UPS solution comes with the PowerChute? Personal Edition software which powers down the computer automatically, should an extended power outage occur. The unit communicates with the computer through a special data port.

The APC Back-UPS ES 750 has already hit the United States retailers' shelves and can be purchased for $99.99, but APC is planning to make it available for other markets no sooner than January 2008.
