GamersFirst has confirmed that Steam users can now try out the open beta stage for APB Reloaded, the revived and enhanced edition of 2010’s APB online shooter, for free.

APB was released last year as a ‘cops and robbers’-type MMO by Realtime Worlds, trying to attract fans of open world sandbox titles like Grand Theft Auto but, sadly, despite its aggressive marketing, it didn’t really manage to win over that many fans.

The teams at GamersFirst and Reload Productions managed to secure the rights to the game, however, and, since last year, worked on enhancing the experience to make it that much more attractive, while turning it into a free to play title.

The game can now be tried out by all users of Valve’s Steam service, as the open beta for APB Reloaded can be downloaded for free.

"GamersFirst is and always will be focused on our community, and being able to deliver the truly unique gaming experience that APB Reloaded offers to Steam subscribers only strengthens that commitment," said Rahul Sandil, SVP of marketing and business development for GamersFirst. "Steam and GamersFirst share a common passion for authentic gaming experiences and dedication to delivering the very best entertainment possible to the PC platform."

Steam, Valve’s digital distribution service, will keep the game client up to date and allow players easy access to its online experience, as well as give them a chance to easily connect with friends inside its virtual world.

APB Reloaded, for those that aren’t familiar with the online title, takes place in the fictional San Paro city, where players, divided into Criminals or Enforcers, need to battle and win over territories, either by committing or stopping crimes.

The game is powered by the Unreal Engine and allows players to customize everything concerning their in-game character or even the cars they can drive around San Paro.

APB Reloaded’s open beta is now available in Steam’s Free-to-Play section.
