American Reliance Inc. (AMREL) has just revealed its latest rugged laptop called the Rocky RS11, but this is not just your average laptop.

The company describes its latest endeavor as the “thinnest, lightest rugged laptop on the market.” So if you have a tough job that entails the use of mobile technology this might be for you.

More specifically, the device is targeted at professionals who work in surveying, mining, construction, field research or combat control solutions.

AMREL's Senior Application Engineer Javier Camarillo says that such a device was needed on today's market since “Too many people associate rugged computers with heavy, clunky devices.”

“Feedback from front-line troops, police officers and industrial workers told us the importance of creating a lighter platform that can withstand rough in the filed. That's one reason so many people are turning to tablets and smartphones,” he adds.

To demonstrate the claim that the Rocky RS11 is the thinnest and lightest rugged laptop in the world, AMREL placed the device next to the non-rugged MacBook Air Pro in their promo material. And you can't really tell the difference between the two, bulk-wise.

The laptop only weighs 5.5 pounds / 2.494 kg, allowing for use in environments most us wouldn't deem it appropriate.

Nothing can harm this trooper as it has been certified for MIL-STD 810 and IP65, which means the Rocky won't gather dust, nor be damaged by low-pressure water jets.

It can also continue to function at temperatures of -4 to 131 degrees Fahrenheit / -20 to 55 degrees Celsius.

Spec wise, Amrel uses 1.7GHz Intel Core i7 and integrated Intel HD Graphics 400. 8GB of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM are provided along with three USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0 ports and gigabit LAN.

Wireless connectivity is provided, especially since some customers working in fields such as the military would find such a feat crucial. The display is a 13.3-inch one with 1,600 x 900 resolution.

The Rocky RS11 is not a touch enabled laptop, however. So far, there are still question marks regarding the Rocky RS11, especially as regards the company’s pricing plans for it, but more information should be revealed soon.
