AMOLED technology has been used quite a bit in mobile devices, but when it comes to TVs it has a rather unfortunate history. That might not matter in the end though.

TV vendors tried to make AMOLED sets a few times, but it never ended well, mostly because they were too expensive.

Now, though, with CES 2014 having started a new wave of them, it's possible that the market will take off again. Well, all of them were advertised as OLED, but that's besides the point.

IHS iSuppli expects shipments to be of 50,000 in 2014, 700,000 in 2015, 2.2 million in 2016 and 5.1 million in 2017.

The real culmination will be in 2018 though, when the 10 million figure will be attained.

Whether or not this happens will depend on time, pricing, interest and tech evolution.
