The A Series of accelerated processing units is, right now, the best known product line composed of hybrid processors (CPU+GPU on a single package), but it's not the only one, as this latest information again shows.

While the A10, A8, A6 and A4 lines cover the entirety of the desktop front well enough, the same cannot be said for the mobile market.

Sure, there are laptop chips in that range, but for tablets and other gadgets, as well as embedded and industrial devices, other brands are at work.

Specifically, there are (and will be) APUs shipping under the Athlon and Sempron brands as well.

We'll get the newest upcoming AMD A4 FM2 APU out of the way first. Called A4-4020, it is a dual-core unit with a base clock frequency of 3.2 GHz and a Turbo Core maximum of 3.4 GHz.

It also boasts L2 cache memory of 1 MB, HD 7xxx series graphics (unknown frequency) and a TDP (thermal design power) of 65W. All for the price of $40 / €30 – €40.

That said, there are two Athlon SoCs approaching, called Athlon 5150 and Athlon 5350. Both are quad-core chips with 2 MB cache memory, 25W TDP and Radeon HD 8400 graphics running at 600 MHz.

The Athlon 5150 has a clock of 1.6 GHz though, while the Athlon 5350 runs at 2.05 GHz. The prices are of $45 / €33 – €45 and $54 / €40 – €54, respectively.

That leaves just the Sempron 2650 and Sempron 2650, both of which have 25W TDPs. That's the only similarity though.

The Sempron 2650 is a dual-core unit with 1.4 GHz frequency, 1 MB cache and Radeon HD 8240 graphics operating at 400 MHz. Its price is of $35 / €25.60 – €35.

Finally, the Sempron 3850 is a quad-core, 1.3 GHz unit with 2 MB cache and HD 8240 graphics at 450 MHz, all for $39 / €29 – €39.
