Chip manufacturer AMD is taking a shot at tablets. Apparently, the company has already won a CES 2014 innovation award for the upcoming tablet, which goes by the name of “Project Discovery.”

The slate has been designed to be a game platform of sorts and will come sporting several peripherals, like a game controller, says TechRadar.

So far, details are scarce in the specifications department, but an AMD spokeswoman confirmed that the project was real and it would be showcased at CES 2014 in January.

“AMD’s goals are to show the world what we can do in the tablet space around or next generation APU, Mullins.”

So, the tablet is going to pack an AMD next-gen Mullins processor, which is supposed to be a low-power chip that consumes as little as 2 watts of energy while the device is working.

It is also known that the tablet will run Windows 8 and have a docking station (with AMD’s DockPort 1.2 technology) to allow the support of peripherals, monitors, and others. Keep an eye out in January.
