Advanced Micro Devices is gaining a new staff member, one that will assume a place among the high-ranking executives and carry out a very important role.

Darrell Ford, age 47, has become the senior vice president and chief human resources officer of the Sunnyvale, California-based CPU, GPU and APU maker.

That means that we will manage all areas of the company's human resources functions.

In other words, he will be keeping an eye out for talent, managing the workforce and finding ways of boosting the effectiveness of the organization.

Also, like he did during his 4-year tenure at Shell Oil, the man will lead the efforts of worker learning and development, performance and change.

"Darrell brings a strong combination of deep human resources expertise, sound business acumen and a global perspective that will strengthen AMD's leadership team," said President and Chief Executive Officer Rory Read.

"In addition to managing AMD's global HR function, he will also lead an ongoing effort to align our global employee population around a culture of commitment to help create enhanced value for our customers and shareholders."

Darrell Ford has a Juris Doctorate and an MBA from Rutgers University and is a member of the Society for Human Resource Managers, American Bar Association - Labor & Employment Section, as well as the Society of HR Planning.

Before being hired by AMD, and even prior to his four years at Shell Oil, he had worked for six years at Honeywell International as the one responsible for global centers of excellence in performance management, talent management, organizational effectiveness, learning and leadership development.

Considering all the staff and worker changes that AMD has already gone through, some improvements on this front definitely won't be unwelcome. After all, there was a reason so many people, especially in PR and marketing, had to leave Advanced Micro Devices after Read became CEO last year.
