The HSA foundation was created by AMD together with Imagination Technologies, ARM, MediaTek and Texas Instruments earlier this year with initial funding from AMD.

HSA is short for Heterogeneous System Architecture and AMD’s HSA vision consists of a special programming tool library that will effectively create a layer between the programmer and the hardware.

Practically, the software programmer will write and code programs just like he used to or use very small modifications and simple optimizations, and the HSA layer will know how to best execute the code to take advantage of the hardware.

The new supporting members are Arteris, a designer of network-on-chip (NoC) interconnect IP solutions and MulticoreWare, a software tool and library provider.

Apical, an advanced image processing technology company and Sonics, a designer of system IP for cloud-scale SoCs along with Symbio, a provider of R&D innovation services and outsourced product development solutions are now contributing members.

Last but not least is Vivante, a worldwide leader in graphics and GPU Compute technologies for handheld, consumer and embedded devices that has become a HSA associate.
