Advanced Micro Devices, the world's second leader on the x86 microprocessors market segment, said on the same day chosen by Intel to release its latest Xeon processors that several game and entertainment devices manufacturers 'cheered' its 4x4 platform, informs X-bit Labs.
AMD representatives said that software developers such as Bioware, Cakewalk, Crytek, Havok, Irrational Games, Midway, Nero and Sony are already engaged in the development of numerous software applications and games, which are meant to support AMD's direct connect architecture.
"We're looking at a decidedly multi-core processor, multi-threaded application future for the PC industry. AMD has planned this enthusiast platform so that software developers can design outstanding multi-threaded applications for consumers who demand the very best immersive computing experience." said Bob Brewer, corporate vice president, desktop business, AMD.
AMD has announced that its upcoming 4x4 platform will enable manufacturers to make use of two dual-core or even quad-core AMD Athlon 64 FX processors on a single mainboard, a combination which is believed to boom the performances of the entire system.
However, the AMD's 4x4 comes at a high price, if you come to think that only Athlon 64 FX-series processors cost around $1000 a piece.
On the other hand, Intel's Core 2 Duo and Extreme processors might destroy AMD's supremacy, according to some analysts.
"With Crysis, our flagship title, we are pushing the boundaries of game-physics, intelligent combat AI and cinematic visuals. Crysis will be an experience culminated in next-generation hardware when utilized with a multi-core system like AMD's highly anticipated 4x4 enthusiast platform," said Cevat Yerli, president and chief executive of Crytek, the developer of the popular Far Cry game.
