The chips will only reach system integrators, not retail channels

When AMD released the 5 GHz and 4.7 GHz FX-9590 / FX-9370 central processing units, much raving ensued.

Unfortunately, anyone hoping to get one of these processors and build a new PC with them will have to live with the disappointment.

That's because, according to The Tech Report, the Sunnyvale, California-based company won't sell them through retail.

Instead, it will only ship them to system integrators. Ergo, companies that sell fully configured PCs.

AMD is “considering all options” but won't be selling the chip through any channels other than gaming/high-end desktop OEMs.

The 220W TDP might be the reason, since it needs a strong cooler, even liquid cooling systems, which people on the DIY market don't often buy, and which custom-made desktop vendors have more experience choosing and installing anyway.

Finally, and possibly most importantly, the base clocks have been discovered: FX-9590 is a 4.7/5 GHz chip, while the FX-9370 operates at 4.4 GHz – 4.7 GHz.
