It will be the first in the series based on the Hawaii graphics processing units

Soon, Advanced Micro Devices will officially release a new graphics adapter from the FirePro series, the FirePro W9100, which should be the best professional board yet from the company, or close enough.

Well, technically, AMD did not actually say what product it was preparing. It only announced that it would hold a news conference about its new professional graphics cards on March 26.

There are sufficient leaks and reports, however, to surmise that the FirePro W9100 will be the product released, or the best one anyhow.

Also, it is believed that the memory amount on the card will be of 6 GB, thanks to a post on the AMD blog.

This all may very well be a simple misunderstanding, since the amount of memory (6 GB) is the same as on the FirePro W9000. Thus, W9100 may just be a typo. The post has since been edited (only “AMD FirePro graphics card” is mentioned now), which adds credence to that assumption.

But then, we have to wonder why the author didn't correct to W9000, instead of removing the name altogether.

Either way, AMD has promised to launch a new professional graphics card, and it's high time one powered by Hawaii showed up.

So even if there is no W9100 board, a new AMD FirePro graphics card will be launched on March 26 anyway.
