After parting ways with 12% of its workforce at the beginning of the month, AMD has now started to seek out some new engineers, most in the field of system-on-a-chip (SOC) design, which will presumably help the company compete in an ever-changing CPU world.

The move seems to be part of the company’s Project WIN strategy which will be announced at the AMD Financial Analyst Day in February of 2012.

The job ads were posted on the AMD LinkedIn page (an ad also made its appearance on Twitter) and, as VR-Zone reports, they aren’t for just one job opening, but for as many talented engineers as AMD can find.

Right now, the job openings are mostly located in Austin (TX), Sunnyvale (CA), Boxborough (MA) and Fort Collins (CO), some of the more interesting of these being listed below:

Video Architect, Sunnyvale CA - "Responsible for the design and development of x86/SSE and GPU-based Software video codecs, such as MPEG-2, H.264 and SVC"

SOC Integration Engineer, Austin TX - "Own floor planning (estimates & actual), C4 planning, packaging requirements, top level interconnects, implement overlays, full chip assembly along with associated physical verification of assembled chip for next generation AMD Server and Fusion microprocessors."

SOC Design Verification Engineer, Austin TX "This position is for an experienced verification engineer in AMD's SoC verification group working on next generation high performance x86 client and server microprocessors. The location is the Lone Star Design Center in southwest Austin." The complete list is a lot larger than that and includes 12 positions, most of these being posted in the last few days.

Finally, it has to be noted that, apart from the job cuts operated by AMD’s CEO, Rory P. Read, at the beginning of last month the reorganization plan also brought some good news for the company as several former "directors of engineering" for GPU, CPU and memory products were promoted to VP, CVP and C-level executives.
