After it wasted no time and effort in promoting its ATI FirePro V8800 as the most powerful professional graphics card ever created, Advanced Micro Devices had its graphics business unit make a number of extra cards meant to address the market segments that the high-end model found unreachable. The result was a collection of five FirePro models with DirectX 11 support that have unknown prices but are almost ready to get into stores.

The five adapters are known as FirePro V7800, V5800, V4800, V3800 and 2460 Multi-View. The first four have mostly similar form factors and differ from each other through their individual specs. It is the 2460 Multi-View that stands out form the others, through its low-profile PCB and passive cooling, which enables it to use only 13W during normal operation. Essentially, this adapter is meant as a power-efficient ATI Eyefinity solution.

The V5800 is based on the Juniper GPU and has 800 stream processors, 1GB GDDR5 VRAM with an interface of 128 bits, a TDP or 75W and dual DisplayPort and DVI video outputs. The V4800 is somewhat less powerful, with only 400 stream processors, but it has the same amount of memory and connectivity capabilities identical to those of its sibling. The V3800 uses a half-height PCB and it also features 400 processors, but it has only a 512MB DDR3 memory and comes with DVI and DisplayPort outputs.

The last in the line, and the most powerful, is the FirePro V7800. Based on the Cypress GPU, it has no less than 1,440 stream processors, 2GB GDDR5 VRAM, Eyefinity support, DVI, dual DisplayPort outputs and a thermal design power (TDP) of under 150W.

"AMD's new ATI FirePro workstation graphics cards are the world’s first workstation class graphics cards to support up to four monitors on a single card, enabling increased productivity for professional graphics users," Janet Matsuda, senior director, Professional Graphics, AMD, said. "Our new ATI FirePro family delivers new value at every price point."
