14 DAY TRIAL // Sunnyvale, California-based AMD is expected to unveil a new range of desktop processors, coming to provide its customers with the performance of the new Phenom II desktop CPUs, designed on the 45nm process technology. However, sources in the industry are already claiming that the chip maker will also be refreshing its business class lineup, with the addition of new processors, expected to be released sometime in the third quarter of 2009. According to available details, the company will be announcing six new 45nm processors, coming in dual-core, triple-core and quad-core formats.
The news follows a recent update to the company's CPU schedule, which now features six new 45nm processors, part of the Athlon family. The chip maker has added the new quad-core Athlon X4 615 and 605, while in the triple-core segment, AMD now provides users with the Athlon X3 420 and 410, all slated to be released in April, this year. Dual-core Athlon X2 240 and 235 are expected to become available in June.
In the business class, Advanced Micro Devices is expected to launch the dual-core Athlon X2 B23 and B21, featuring 2.9GHz core speed and 2MB cache and 2.7GHz speed and 2MB cache, respectively. In the triple-core segment AMD will launch the Phenom II X3 B73 and B71 with 2.8GHz/7.5MB and 2.6GHz/7.5MB. Two new quad-core processors are expected to debut, in the form of the Phenon II X4 B93 and B91, with 2.8GHz/8MB and 2.6GHz/8MB specifications.
In Q4 2009, AMD will issue the last order notices for the following processors: Phenom II X4 9850B, 9750B, 9600B and Phenom II X3 8850B, 8750B, 8600B as well as Athlon X2 5600B, 5400B, 5200B, 5000B, 4850B, 4450B and Athlon 1640B.
In the consumer segment, the company will release the last order notice for its highly anticipated Phenom II X4 920 and 940 Black Edition CPUs, in May 2009.
