Even months after Dirk Meyer's ousting, Advanced Micro Devices still does not have an actual chief executive officer, so the outfit is now sending offers to executives from other companies.

It has already been some time since AMD's former CEO Dirk Meyer was suddenly sacked, because of disagreements with the board of directors in regards to future product tactics.

Since then, the outfit has been looking for a leader that will get AMD to make products suited for mobile phones and tablets, while also increasing its CPU market share at the cost of Intel's own.

Chief Financial Officer Thomas Seifert is currently filling the position of interim CEO, and he said that the board has made 'good progress' in searching for a chief executive.

“The search is obviously a priority and the board is moving the process forward to ensure that we select a person with the right vision, experience and track record to lead AMD into the future and to create increased shareholder value over time," said Drew Prairie, a spokesman for AMD.

Still, without details, it is impossible to know for sure what is happening, although, true enough, some exact info has now been provided.

Apparently, AMD approached top executives from Oracle (Co-President Mark Hurd), EMC COO (Chief Operating Officer) Pat Gelsinger, Apple Inc. Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook and Greg Summe, Group Managing Director at Carlyle, all of whom refused the offers.

"With the state of the economy in that industry, it can be relatively hard to get people," said Daniel Grassi, an Atlanta-based managing director at executive-search firm Boyden.

The fact that there have already been months of searching without finding a new leader isn't that big a cause to worry yet.

It was expected that AMD's board would take about six months to look for someone that is not just already part of the so-called 'culture,' but also transformative. Nevertheless, things might get strained if the outfit fails to find a suitable head figure by the end of summer.
