Sunnyvale, California-based AMD has just introduced a new graphics card as part of the company's line of ATI FirePro graphics accelerators. The card, which comes with a quad display configuration, has been designed as a low-profile graphics solution that consumes minimal power and is said to deliver high power efficiency. It operates at less than 18 watts and is targeted at the professional market segment.

“The ATI FirePro 2450 offers the reliability professionals expect and the efficiency IT departments require. IT managers want a card they can test once, deploy virtually anywhere, and count on to run reliably,” said Janet Matsuda, senior director, AMD Professional Graphics. “The low power consumption enables cool, energy-efficient operation, as well as superior reliability and longevity. The compact form factor can be deployed in nearly any system. This accelerator is perfect for customers who need more than two displays, such as in financial services and process control.”

AMD's FirePro range of graphics cards is designed for professional users as they are meant to be installed in workstations, desktop PCs and docking stations featuring processors from AMD or other chip makers. The new card comes with 512MB of on-board graphics memory and is said to deliver a high level of performance when streaming media and running applications in several windows. It comes with full support for Microsoft's Windows Vista Aero feature and is said to consume less than 18W of power. Additionally, it has been featured with two VHDCI connectors with breakout cables for quad DVI-I or VGA support.

According to the chip maker, the new card has been designed to provide the company's customers with an alternative to the ATI FireMV workstation cards. It comes with a MSRP of US $499 and is already available for system integrators and channel partners worldwide.
