Looks like that metal briefcase is the real deal, at least on tape

Back on April 1, photos leaked to the web, photos that some believed were an April Fools hoax. And if not the photos, then it was hoped that at least the price was a joke.

After all, for the 8 GB Radeon R9 295 X2 graphics card to have the same $3,000 / €3,000 price as the 12 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX Titan-Z would be painful.

More recent rumors suggest a tag of $1,500 / €1,500, or thereabouts, but AMD continues to keep silent on this matter.

The Sunnyvale, California-based company did confirm the existence of the metal briefcase though. At least as specialized equipment for corporate spy agents.

Below is the trailer that AMD filmed. The IT player has a history of shooting short flicks like this, as a way to draw the attention of the world in anticipation of a new (and big) product release.

The dual-Hawaii Vesuvius board with hybrid cooler (both air-based and closed loop liquid-based) definitely qualifies as a “big reveal” even though most of the specifications have already been leaked.

For those who want a rundown, here they are (though some may still prove untrue): 5,632 stream processors, 352 TMUs (texture mapping units), 128 ROPs (raster operating units) and 1,024 memory bandwidth (512 per chip).
