The new graphics card based on Hawaii can be yours for twice the sum that was assumed

Here's something that makes me a bit uneasy: the pre-order page of AMD's Radeon R9 290X Battlefield 4 Edition.

Why does it make me uneasy, you ask? Because it's expensive. Really expensive. About twice the price I dared hope for.

Last week, I said that the R9 290X had the makings of an NVIDIA GTX Titan equal for just $600 / €600.

Now, the Radeon R9 290X Battlefield 4 Edition has been put up for pre-order (ships with a copy of Battlefield 4 and all expansion packs), at a price of 7,299 SEK (Swedish currency), which corresponds to $1,145 / €840.

I really hope this is just an attempt to make some quick cash early. Then again, Radeon R9 290X is an enthusiast card, which means that only people with deep pockets are going to buy it, no matter where in the $600/€600 – $1,000+/€1000+ range it settles, just like NVIDIA's $1,000/€1,000 Titan did.
