Assuming AMD doesn't skip the generation altogether, in which case the next will benefit

It could be said that Advanced Micro Devices has already introduced the Radeon HD 8000 graphics series. However, that's not really true, because the only HD 8000 graphics out there are the ones part of APUs.

Actual add-in-boards bearing the Radeon 8000 brand, or a derivative thereof, have yet to come forth. AMD is preparing a treat though.

According to ComputerBase, AMD is preparing a new type of cooler for the Radeon HD 8000 series.

The cooler was not shown at Computex 2013, in Taipei, Taiwan, but it is there that the company revealed the info.

However, we should mention that the report was rather vague, in that it didn't actually mention the Radeon HD 8000 by name. At least not that we've seen.

Instead, it said that the next series of Radeon cards would be equipped with more efficient coolers.

The photo up on the left isn't it though. Instead, it is the one of the Radeon HD 7970, only without the shroud.

It is important to make the distinction between Radeon HD 8000 and the next series of AMD add-in-cards because the HD 8000 might not necessarily be the next series of AMD add-in-cards.

Instead, there are some murmurs that the Sunnyvale, California-based company will jump straight to HD 9000.

A while ago, there was even a report about the AMD Radeon HD 9970 Hawaii being scheduled for late 2013 (Volcanic Islands). In either case, we can expect a new cooler, albeit not necessarily a better-looking one.

Whenever they come out, we'll be sure to mention it if the modifications are essential enough to warrant it. AMD will have to balance the need for novelty with the need for keeping the prices at the same level as those of the HD 7000 cards that the newcomers will replace.
