Introduced at the end of last week, AMD's Radeon HD 6670 graphics card, built on top of the Turks GPU, will be initially available only in the OEM channel, but this hasn't stopped some Chinese enthusiasts from getting a hold of such a card in order to provide us with some quick benchmarks as well as with detailed pictures of the Radeon HD 6670.

Taking a quick look at the card, it becomes apparent that the cooling solutions employed by AMD is remarkably similar to that used for the HD 5670, not surprisingly considering that the cards have about the same TDP.

What is important to note, however, is that AMD has decided to cool both the memory chips and the GPU, something that we don't get to see that often when it comes to entry level graphics cards.

Compared to the HD 5670, the PCB hasn't suffered any major modifications, apart from the rearrangement of some of the power delivery circuitry, the card featuring the same 2+1 phase count as its predecessor.

Things get different only when we move to the GPU itself, as the new Turks architecture packs quite a a few changes when compared to the previous Redwood-based cores.

For starters, the number of stream processors available has been increased from the original 400 to 480, the same thing happening to the texturing units as Turks now packs 24 such units compared to the 20 found inside Redwood.

In addition, the core clock has also been increased, and the HD 6670 now runs at 800MHz, 25MHz higher than the HD 5670.

The other major change brought to the HD 6670 is the addition of the UVD 3 media engine that brings 3D playback support as well as other improvements over its predecessor.

The rest of the core's specifications have been left unaltered, as Turks features 32 Z/Stencil ROP units, 8 color ROP units, as well as a 128-bit memory interface.

This can be connected to 512MB or 1GB of GDDR5 memory that runs at 1000MHz (4GHz effective).

Unfortunately, no one knows at this time if and when AMD plans to release Turks and Caicos in the retail market. (via ChipHell)
