It looks like the Radeon HD 6450, which really only got detailed a short time ago, will soon be followed by two others, based on the Turks and Caicos graphics processing units, although they have been delayed.

Since Advanced Micro Devices was kind enough to detail the Radeon HD 6450 video card not long ago, users are now waiting for more mainstream models to show up.

Availability still isn't expected to ramp up until April 19, however, which means that sales will start at about the same time as two other AMD boards.

Originally, the plan was supposed to get shipments to start next week, but plans changed for a reason that has not yet become clear.

Apparently, it will only start selling when the Radeon HD 6570 and 6670 do as well.

These two adapters are different from the HD 6450 on several accounts, although the GPU (graphics processing unit) itself is the biggest distinctive element.

While the HD 6450 (which should sell for less than $50 and will be used in SFF systems and HTPCs) uses the Caicos chip, the other two have the Turks.

That said the specifications have not really been officially given, but rumors have uncovered or speculated enough for a general idea to take form.

The HD 6570, or Turks Pro, and the HD 6670, or Turks XT, will have GDDR3 and GDDR5 memory, respectively, as well as 480 Stream processors each. Additionally, the memory interface will be of 128 bits.

The GPUs on each will have different clock speeds of course, and OEMs will probably experiment with the PCBs (printed circuit boards), the cooling solutions and, of course, the clocks themselves in their quest to outmatch each other.

Both the Turks and Caicos cards should end up with low profile form factors and low-power cooling, maybe even passive solutions.
