Our contact informed us that the video cards are selling for as much as they used to

You'll remember that we wrote, a couple of days ago, that AMD's Radeon HD 7000 series graphics adapters got even cheaper than they already were. We even looked at retailer information and the new figures seemed to check out.

One of our contacts e-mailed us to say that the video boards from Advanced Micro Devices were shipping for the same amounts as they used to. Thus, the differences we noticed were owed to decisions at retailer and OEM level, not some general price list overhaul imposed by the Sunnyvale company.

In other words, the smaller prices may go away without much ado, and not all online/street vendors offer them.

Truth be told, it makes sense that this would be the case. After all, the Radeon HD 7000 series went through a price revision back in July, so it would have been strange if it happened again so soon.

Not all is lost though. Due to the arrival of NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 660 and 650, retailers might tweak their tags just to balance the shipping odds of all adapters in stock. You'll have to check directly with them for comparisons though.
