Motherboard maker ASUSTeK will reportedly showcase an upcoming motherboard dubbed M4A785-M EVO, which features AMD's next-generation RS880G chipset. Pictures of the new mobo have just surfaced the Internet, just days away from the show that will kick off on June 2. One of the main features of AMD's upcoming desktop platform is the possibility to provide computer enthusiasts with a higher-performance, integrated GPU, the RV620 graphics processing unit. Among other things, this new
chipset offers support for DirectX 10.1 graphics and will likely be a choice for gamers on a budget.
AMD's next-generation 8-series chipsets will provide users with support for Hyper Transport 3, DirectX 10.1 API and the already available ATI Hybrid graphics. Designed on a 55nm manufacturing technology, the chipset will deliver twelve USB ports, six SATA ports with RAID functionality and support for on-board HDMI, DVI and Display Port. One of the first motherboard makers to adopt the new platform is ASUS, which will reportedly unveil its new Micro-ATX M4A785-M EVO model.
This mobo has been specifically designed to take advantage of the latest features inside AMD's forthcoming platform, including the support for higher-performance graphics. The board will be ready for AM2/AM2+ and AM3 processors and will support up to four DDR2-1200 memory modules. Within this Micro-ATX form factor, ASUS has also fitted a PCI-Express x16 slot, which will allow computer enthusiasts to further boost system performance with the addition of a discrete graphics card.
Additional features of the M4A785-M EVO include one eSATA and five SATA ports, 7.1-channel audio, integrated D-Sub, DVI and HDMI outputs, as well as the company's Express Gate instant-on OS. No word on pricing at the moment, but the board is scheduled to arrive sometime during the third quarter of this year.
