The world’s best chess player, Grand Master Viswanathan Anand, was honored today by Advanced Micro Devices with a top-of-the-line gaming machine including the best quad-core Phenom processor, as well as the ATI Radeon 4870×2 graphics card, a 1 tera flop capable part. The computer sports a futuristic looking ASUS chassis with specifications on the champion’s achievements.

Anand needs fast and multiprocessing technology to be able to stay tuned to the latest developments in the chess world, while needing it to practice for the chess championships he attends to across the world. AMD sees this gift as an opportunity to congratulate Anand for maintaining his world championship title. Vishy was signed as AMD's brand ambassador in India and started an aggressive marketing campaign meant to leverage the awareness on AMD’s products.

Back in April 2008, Anand agreed with AMD to be the company's ambassador in order to gain familiarity among computer buyers, while guiding them into taking well informed decisions, and helping them evaluate all options. Anand has a reputation as a master-planner and is known to have the power of taking evaluated decisions. AMD gained higher awareness and familiarity in India as a result of a multi-media campaign with Anand started in June 2008.

“The three top focus areas for me in the game of chess are performance, speed and memory and I believe that AMD is the true leader in all three parameters. I have been using AMD’s technology to simulate real-world chess environments while practicing at home and get all the power and performance required to simulate a real-time intelligent and challenging chess game,” said Grand Master Viswanathan Anand, Brand Ambassador, AMD India.

“In the game of chess, every move is associated with multiple options. It is only a well thought decision that can make the difference between winning and losing. We at AMD believe that making such informed decisions is important while purchasing PCs as well. We have been very successful in establishing a connect between Vishy’s personal decision to play chess and getting consumers to think in a similar manner while choosing a processor for their computer,” said Deepanshu Sharma, General Manager, Marketing and Strategy, AMD India.
